Emily Thornberry, Environment MP of the year: "I believe that the core values of collectivism, internationalism and radicalism are the main drivers behind environmental activism. These are values that underpin the Labour Party. As an elected member of the labour party and as an environmental campaigner I applaud this website for seeking to promote the role of the community in tackling the inequalities caused by poor environmental management"

Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London: 'Following the IPCC reports published this year, it is clear that global warming has been caused by human activity. We must act now to reduce our emissions before we reach a tipping point, which according to the IPCC, may be as little as eight years away. We don't have to reduce our quality of life but we do need to change the way we live. In London use of energy in the home accounts for 40 per cent of all carbon emissions, so simply by making a few changes, like installing loft or cavity wall insulation, Londoners can make a significant impact on how much energy they use. I support the Community energy website in its work to help all in our community to make these changes'

Claude Moraes MEP: "You cannot be pro-environment without being pro-European. The EU has recognised that in order to lead the fight against climate change we need to provide our communities with the tools and incentives they need to build ambitious carbon cutting measures into their lifestyles. The UK is one of the world's leaders in renewable energy technology but we have a great deal to learn from our European neighbours about the ways in which we can use these to the benefit of our own communities"

Micheal Pyner CEO Shoreditch Trust: "climate change and our behaviour as users and consumers is the greatest challenge we face, from a regeneration perspective there seems a strange irony in enabling the changing of people and places whilst paying no regard to the broader environment within which we live"
