'Truly progressive communities are those in which we are as optimistic about our collective progress as we are about our individual ambition and where individuals are not allowed to waste resources that others in our community need but cannot afford'

Using the Earth's finite and essential natural resources at an unsustainable rate is the greatest experiment in the history of our planet. The results of our great experiment are not yet certain, but already they are having huge implications on the quality of human life for all in our community.

Living and working in one of the most prosperous and technologically advanced societies, one cannot fail to notice all around us evidence of waste of precious resources, for example energy or water.

Some of this is down to the outdated nature of our infrastructure much of which has served us for over a century. The main reason, however, is that in our modern market economy we have, as a society, taken no account of the true value of the natural resources which sustain our everyday existence.

As we deplete scarce resources such as oil, we pollute our seas and contribute to the warming of our planet. Already one of the main causes of catastrophic climate change, in time our profligate use of this and other scarce natural resources will affect the cohesion of our society as we struggle to ensure a decent lifestyle for all in our community.
